On 25 February 2026, the Endorsement Meeting for the updated National Implementation Plan (NIP) was held in Sarajevo within the framework of the project „Global Development, Rewiew and Update of National Implementation Plans under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)“ (GEF ID 10785).

The meeting brought together nearly 70 participants from across Bosnia and Herzegovina, including representatives of institutions at all levels of government, experts, international partners and other relevant stakeholders. The strong participation and active engagement of all sectors highlighted the importance of the NIP updating process and the shared commitment to fulfilling the obligations arising from the Stockholm Convention.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the outcomes achieved under previous National Implementation Plans and discussed the progress made in implementing planned activities and measures. Particular attention was given to identifying key priorities for the upcoming implementation period, presenting newly developed inventories of POPs and discussing both new and revised action plans.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to present plans for the dissemination of project results and to outline the next steps related to the submission of the updated NIP and the preparation of national reports in accordance with Article 15 of the Stockholm Convention, due in August 2026.

The constructive discussion and exchange of experiences again demonstrated the importance of cooperation among institutions, the expert community and international partners in strengthening chemicals and POPs management in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all experts, institutions and partners for their valuable contributions and continued support throughout the implementation of the project. The meeting marked an important milestone towards the finalization of the updated National Implementation Plan and the further advancement of environmental protection and public health in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
