The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports the development of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) Waste Management Plan 2025–2030, a strategic document aligned with the priorities of the FBiH Environmental Protection Strategy. The primary objective of the project is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current waste management landscape in FBiH and to establish clear, actionable guidelines for the implementation of a sustainable and integrated waste management system over the next five years.
The project begins with an in-depth analysis of the current state of waste management systems in FBiH, examining material, financial, and organizational aspects from a critical perspective. This assessment is supported by available data, reports, and lessons learned from activities implemented during the previous planning period, and is complemented by interactive engagement with key stakeholders. Based on this analysis, the project defines strategic goals, activities, and concrete measures necessary to establish an environmentally acceptable and cost-effective integrated waste management system.
A central component of the assignment is the preparation of the Draft FBiH Waste Management Plan, designed as a practical and strategic tool for decision-makers and stakeholders. The draft plan emphasizes clarity, structured content, and visual presentation to ensure usability and alignment with institutional needs. Extensive consultations with the Institutional Partner, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism (FMET), support the presentation, discussion, and refinement of the draft document.
In parallel, the project includes the development of tailored communication and visibility materials to promote the Waste Management Plan and support outreach efforts at public events, meetings, and across social media platforms. These materials play an important role in raising public awareness and strengthening understanding of sustainable waste management practices. The project concludes with the preparation of the final version of the FBiH Waste Management Plan, incorporating feedback from consultations and ensuring readiness for implementation.
The project is funded by UNDP, implemented over the period from November 2024 to February 2026, and carried out in partnership with ENOVA d.o.o. Sarajevo.
