The project is implemented within the framework of the Global Development, Review and Update of National Implementation Plans (NIPs) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in updating its National Implementation Plan in line with new Convention requirements and emerging POPs. The overall goal is to strengthen national capacities for effective POPs management, improve data availability and quality, and ensure an inclusive, participatory, and well-coordinated national process that reflects the country’s environmental priorities and obligations.
Through its activities, the project supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in fulfilling its commitments under the Stockholm Convention by enabling structured stakeholder engagement, priority setting, inventory development, expert consultations, awareness-raising, and national validation processes. A particular focus is placed on ensuring meaningful participation of institutions, experts, and the public across all administrative levels, so that the updated NIP responds to national circumstances, legislative frameworks, environmental challenges, and future implementation needs.
The project is implemented in close cooperation with RECETOX, Masaryk University (as a Stockholm Convention Regional Centre), national focal points, and a wide network of stakeholders from public administration, academia, civil society, and the private sector. Activities include the organization and facilitation of thematic stakeholder meetings and national consultations, support to online consultation processes, coordination with inventory experts, preparation of communication materials and official documentation, and implementation of awareness-raising campaigns based on inventory findings.
Additionally, the project ensures technical, organizational, communication, and administrative support throughout the NIP update process, including the preparation of reports, documentation, meeting materials, and analysis of stakeholder feedback. Through this structured and collaborative approach, the project contributes to more effective POPs management, enhanced institutional capacity, and stronger national alignment with international environmental commitments under the Stockholm Convention.
The project is implemented from March 2025 to June 2026, representing a significant contribution to strengthening national capacities and advancing the effective implementation of the Stockholm Convention in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
