The Sarajevo Economic Region Development Agency (SERDA) leads the Circular DigiBuild project, aimed at fostering the integration of circular economy principles and digitalization within the construction industry in the Danube region. The project seeks to enhance sustainability, resource efficiency, and technological innovation, providing practical strategies and solutions that can support the sector’s transition toward a greener future.
The project encompasses four main tasks. The first task involves preparing a “Report on the Valorisation of Existing Knowledge and Applicable Solutions from Disruptive Technologies”, consolidating current knowledge, analyzing disruptive technologies, and identifying solutions aligned with circular economy principles. Special attention is given to adapting these solutions to the local context and addressing sector-specific challenges.
The second task focuses on analyzing opportunities for applying circular economy principles in the construction sector, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through data collection, company outreach, desk research, and questionnaires, the project identifies six advanced technological solutions, including building management systems, 3D modeling for optimizing construction planning, the use of drones for geodetic measurements, and digital tools for monitoring construction progress. The findings provide a foundation for developing tailored strategies and digital solutions to enhance sustainability in construction practices.
The third task entails a policy review to support the integration of innovations driven by digitalization and circular economy principles. This review examines existing policies, strategic frameworks, and funding instruments, providing insights into good practices and enabling recommendations for replication at local and regional levels.
Finally, the project organizes a promotional event to present the Circular DigiBuild initiative and share the results of all implemented activities, facilitating dialogue, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination of project outcomes.
Through these efforts, Circular DigiBuild strengthens knowledge transfer, promotes innovative digital and circular solutions, and supports the construction industry in the Danube region in achieving sustainable and environmentally responsible growth.
