Cener 21 is currently seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to fill the role of Local Coordinators in 8 municipalities / cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. This opportunity is part of our ongoing project to implement the Low Plastic Zone initiative aimed at reducing single-use plastics in the HORECA sector. Detailed information about the project and specific requirements for the roles are outlined below.

Project title: NGO/Association/Consulting company for implementation of Low Plastic Zone initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The purpose of this project is to encourage at least 750 businesses in the HORECA sector—including hotels, restaurants, cafés, and small shops—to reduce their reliance on single-use plastic items (SUPs) through advisory and awareness campaigns. The project aims to identify more sustainable alternatives and highlight the potential benefits of adopting such measures for their businesses.

The objective of this assignment is to ensure that by the end of this contract, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at least 750 HORECA businesses have voluntarily reduced the use of SUPs in their daily operations and can provide proof of this change.

The criteria for awarding the LPZ label to HORECA businesses include: demonstrable reduction in the use of disposable plastic items (e.g. straws, juice or coffee cups, coffee spoons, plastic bags, please see the full list of SUPs at the Declaration of Commitment, demonstrable training of staff in the reduction of disposable plastic items, visible information for guests regarding the problem of disposable plastic items, etc. Documentation methods require declaration of commitment for each business, meeting photos/videos, and other LPZ promotional materials.

Qualifications and Tasks of Local Coordinators

Tasks of the Local Coordinator

  • Identifying and meeting with businesses in the respective geographic area for the LPZ as explained under chapter 2, within the indicated deadlines.
  • Maintaining accurate records of activities and regular reporting in accordance with deadlines.
  • Participating in meetings and discussions to provide updates on local activities and progress.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to increase community engagement and participation.
  • Responsibility to submit extra reporting feedback when asked for the Team Leader, as input for the overall report submitted to GIZ project’s commissioning party.

Qualifications of the Local Coordinator

  • Education/training: Enrolled in on university programm on communication, business/entrepreneurship, environmental sciences, social sciences, management or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree will be an asset.
  • Language: Knowledge of English language minimum B1.
  • General professional experience: experience in coordination
  • Specific professional experience: Experience in awareness campaigns, communication to private sector companies is preferable.
  • The above-mentioned qualification should be met by all local coordinators, and their allocation on the application shall be made based on the respective geographic areas.

The Local Coordinators shall be engaged from 1st July 2024 to 1st November 2024 and should be available during this period in the municipality / city for which they are appointed as coordinator. The number of working days shall depend on the number of HORECA businesses and shall be agreed upon. Payment will be based on performance, specifically the number of businesses visited and engaged.
