Climate change is a major challenge in the world. It is globally accepted that human-made greenhouse gas emissions have a negative impact on the environment. Global warming is a fact. It represents a significant problem of politics, economics, society, technology, environment and ecology on a global level. Globally, the world has come to the end of an era when non-renewable energy sources can be the basis for planning future development. The solution is renewable energy sources.

Recognizing the importance of raising awareness about renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, and the benefits of their implementation, it is necessary to act. Therefore, through the project “Action for development and promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in the Municipality of Olovo” CENER 21 prepared Feasibility Study on Use of Solar Energy in Public Buildings under the Jurisdiction of Municipality. Prioritization of buildings was done through the Feasibility Study based on defined criteria and one building was selected for the implementation activity.

During the period of September 2022, a Solar Hot Water System was implemented at the Sports Centre Olovo. The installation of the solar system will enable Sports Centre Olovo to have continuous availability of hot water for showering, adequate hot water capacity, use of more energy-efficient technologies, and ultimately reduce electricity costs.

„Two vacuum solar systems have been installed on the roof of the Sports Centre Olovo, the total thermal power of which is 5 kW at a solar insolation of 1000 W/m2. The energy from the solar vacuum collectors is transmitted and accumulated in a storage tank with a volume of 0.5 m3 (500 liters). The hot water prepared from the storage tanks is sent through pipes to the shower cubicles in the changing rooms.“ – pointed out Mr Nesib Mandžić, Director of company Elektro Test (the implementing company).

The entire project is of great importance, since it is the first of its kind to be implemented in Olovo, and it ultimately included a concrete implementation measure.

„This is very important for Municipality Olovo as an institution, because it is a pilot project for the use of green energy that was successfully implemented in the end. At a time when energy has become an expensive product and an indispensable factor in the development of every society, even the smallest developments in this field are an important indicator of our commitment to the use of renewable energy sources and environmental protection. Therefore, we are sincerely grateful to CENER 21 for choosing us for the implementation of this kind of project, which will certainly facilitate the self-sustainability of the Sports Centre Olovo, and ensure comfort for its users.“ – emphasized Mr Safet Kulo, representative of Municipality Olovo.

The entire CENER 21 team that worked on the project is extremely satisfied with the implementation done and the fact that the comfort of the building’s users has been increased.

„The project can significantly contribute to raising awareness of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, but also serve as an example for other municipalities in B&H for the implementation of similar projects.“ – highlighted Mrs Amina Begić, Project Coordinator on behalf of CENER 21.

The project Action for Development and Promotion of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency in Municipality Olovo is financed by the Embassy of Czech Republic in B&H through the Development Cooperation Program of the Czech Republic.
